Flower outlets Mildura

I am excited.
I am on a one month trial at a new outlet for my flowers
My experiment to hide the flowers from the wild rabbits has
worked but I will modify the concept next year

The view from my studio door into the garden.
Some students have been unable to
resist the urge to pick them
I know the feeling as my seceteur hand gets
restless when I see beautiful flowers.

Stella and Luca have great respect for the flowers here.
Well trained!
Not so good down the back
where the wild rabbits roam.

Anyway back to the lead story,
a new local outlet for the flowers
BP Buronga IGA
I delivered five  bunches on Monday.
Got a call on Wednesday to ask for some  more.
Robin was familliar with my flowers from my market stall
She has been a customer in the past.
Her enthusiasm is encouraging,
I hope it is an ongoing thing as I love to grow them
but I do have to sell them or there is little point
to all the hard work.
One of my other outlets has relegated the flowers
out of the cool room to the front door.
Interesting that I have sold more
from this position in just a week but the weather has only just
started to warm up.
I think she thinks my flowers will ripen her fruit and veg
when, after some research it is actually
the other way around.
Just to clarify

Helping international artists with their Palimsest sculpture.

I have been busy this week
helping some international artists with
their idea for Palimpsest, a sculpture biennale.
We have spent the week making clay from
local / indigenious clay
and some kaolin to help it all hold together.
The sculpture is going to be made by many people who are
going to shape it with their feet?
as per the artists idea
There will be some technical difficulties that
I will have to solve as we go.
A pit firing will be the answer to the decorative finish
I hope to bisque fire first but will it fit in the kiln?
Will it make it back here from the gallery
where it is to be shaped tonight.
Seems that sculpture is now all about documenting
the making experience.
Books of the future will have to be able to run
all these little films that are being created
for the sculpture exhibition
or they may never see the light of day...
films never see the light of day and must be viewed
in a darkend room.

Cut and paste this into your search engine
to read all about it from the local paper.
Maybe it will become a link,
maybe not?

Co-incidence or Irony?

I had a strange dream last night.
Turning up to a new job at a new school,
Late because I had accepted a lift from colleagues.
I could not work out the timetable,
it was dingy dark and I had trouble seeing.
(should have been the clue that I was dreaming)
One friendly face striding with confidence towards me
Steve Curran.
I thought, glad to be working
in an art department with him again!
The bell had gone...I was desperate to get to class
If only I could work out where that was.
I woke up thank goodness, before I was in trouble
for being late to class.
Today I went to the post office and collected my mail

A registered letter for me.
From F U
Which was B U when I started the course,
Two, or was that three years ago.
It was BCAE when I was an Art student many years ago.

Here it is,
another teaching qualification.
My contract as a TAFE teacher expired the week after
I completed all the work for this one.

Internet brings out the best and worst in people

I have been put off the internet for some months now.
Computer problems and the stinking thieves
that the internet has given a world wide opportunity to.
I have been interested in my blogging statistics and
amazed by the interest shown by people
on the other side of the world.
I have met some fabulous people in
Blog land but  am convinced that my computer troubles started
with those who wished to steal from me.
Let me just state for the record,
I have very little and all of it has been worked hard for.
I would go easy on a "Robin Hood" style bandit.
Find a rich person to steal from!
I have cancelled all Paypal style accounts which is good because now
I have to shop locally and will no longer waste endless hours
trying to prove I am me and I have not been shopping in......
wherever.
Paypal sucks and international thieves just love it.
No online banking for me!
Now that has been said, Winter has been long and cold.
Northern Hemisphere folks are laughing at my concept of cold.
I am longing for the sun.
Just two weeks of winter left.

I am watching and waiting for Spring's splendor
Mum's Peacock Iris, snaffled from her garden when she moved
I could not leave them for the new owners.

Shame these smell like onions.
Such beautiful flowers on strong stems but I generally
resist the urge to add them to my flower bunches.

These early Rannuculi  have been teasing me for a couple of weeks

I think they will be red...
red goes faster doesn't it?

Works in progress

This fabulous little sculpture really needs it's creator
to come back and finish it off with some glaze.

It is a finely crafted portrait of unlikely backyard
friends.
Who would have thought,
a dog, a cat and a magpie.

I have encouraged Corey,
a Wednesday after school pottery student
to create the tiles for the sink splash back.

I am hoping it is a bright coulourful addition
to the new studio.

This is what I am currently working on.
Aladdin's lamp.
Last time I tried this the spout twisted during firing,
and the wick hole closed over with glaze.
Better luck this time.

There has been a lot of work getting through the kiln.
I have been making mugs for the market, and this week
I have glazed about 9 bowls.
Kiln will be cool enough to open tonight.
They are all Satin white which is a bit boring
but currently popular with the purchasing public.

This is my effort to thwart the rabbits this season.
Generally they dine out on my Rannuculi but I don't think
they will be game enough to come right up to the house.

I have used an old garden door for a pathway through the pots.
Preparation for picking.
I have to not count my flowers before they have grown
but it is looking good so far.

The view from the pottery room
when the flowers emerge will be stunning.
Stella is curious as to what I am doing.

I was interested to hear on the radio this week
that the trends in restaurants at the moment include
Kale an hand made plates.
How can I get in on that action?
I could easily give that slab roller a workout.

It never rains but it pours!

42 ml of rain by 2.30pm and it is still raining.
The dust has settled!
I think this is the Autumn break the farmers were looking for.

I am not sure the caravan will get out of this easily.
G Kelly, we might be towing the car that is towing the caravan.

This person had a lucky break when they accidentally drove
down to our turn around.
Plenty of people have been bogged down here.
Its a case of if it is wet it is out of bounds
Enter at your own peril.

This paddock is nearly completely under water.
I wonder if the market will be on in the morning?
I am bunching flowers but feel the need to stop
as it is all a waste of time if the market is cancelled.
They had to be picked any way so that's no problems,
but I haven't picked the herbs yet and perhaps I won't bother today.

Fresh out of the kiln.

You might remember I loaded this kiln last weekend
Here is the grand opening...
The stand out items from this firing would have to be
Renae's jugs.
I love the dark clay.
She says it was awful to throw
and has vowed to never attempt it again.
I looks like pressed sand to me, great colour...but
I can imagine there is little plasticity, much like Raku clay.

I got a variety of colour on my handless mugs.

There is a pearl like blue tinge to this rim.

The more I make of these mugs, the better they are at stacking up.
I am going to take these over to Wentworth, "Ruby's cargo"
A shop that celebrates hand made.

Renae has been busy being very creative with these tall pots.
I wonder how she will glaze them?

I have negotiated with the service station at the end of our street to
sell my flowers.
Only one bunch sold in the first week.
I think they look fine there in the door way.
Lets hope the idea takes off.
I have to keep trying to raise a wage.
Fingers crossed!
